Disturbed/Genesis - Land of Confusion
Watched the Bank Job the other day. For those of you who don't know what it's about, it's a film based on, and revealing, the 1971 Lloyds Bank robbery in Bakers Street of London here in England.
The story goes that the bank was dug under by the criminals and broken into. They raided the vault and stole almost all the contents in the deposit boxes that were stored in there while the security was down for the weekend due to some type of glitch. These robbers kept in contact via walkie talkies, hense why the robbery was named "The Walkie-Talkie Robbery" at the time. These transmissions over the walkie talkies were intercepted by a radio owned by some guy I can't remember. The real radio owner spoke about what happened over an interview in the special features of the film.
Anyway, he overheard what sounded like a robbery in progress but due to the transmission being within a 10 mile radius, no cops took it seriously and believed it to be a hoax. Hah, goes to show how well our high authorities worked near 40 years ago, eh? Eventually some cops decided to investigate the banks in that radius (mind you, a 10 mile radius holds quite a lot of banks) since the robbers haven't revealed which bank it is they're taking over. After making off with what they wanted, they're gone.
Now see, this was just a run of the mill bank robbery. Nothign major, right? Wrong. It was rumoured that MI5, British secret service goverment, instigated this robbery. Why? One word and one letter: "Michael" "X".
Michael X was this drug dealer, pimp and gang member of some sort, a real scum bag. Now the police have been wanting to catch this guy for a very long time but every time he was arrested, he was pronounced "not guilty" in trial, even with all the evidence. He pulled this off thanks to a certain "blackmail" weapon he had that the goverment knew about. What he had, rumour had it but quite a lot of people believed it BEFORE the film during the 70's, was a couple of photos of a beloved Royal Family member known at the time as Princess Margaret performing in some sorts of indecent activities in 1970. I don't know WHAT it was she was doing, maybe sex or just posing for a lot of kinky stuff.
Now she was real beautiful and popular during those times. Had those photos been leaked out, it could've spelled disgust and disrespect for the royal family. So Michael X kept these photos under lock and keep within this bank vault LEGALLY so he would escape prosecution. The goverment couldn't get their hands on it since whatever's hidden in a deposit box within this bank is only known to the people who own them, thus they couldn't use high authority to check each one. It would lead to law breaking and goverment conspiracy against the secrecy of what the public prefers to keep to themselves.
So as said, it was believed they arranged this robbery from behind the scenes so the criminals, who by the way had NOTHING to do with the Royal Family, Michael X or any other well known figure of the underworld during this time, would break in and steal everything, including the photos. But after the robbery, it was believed that the criminals made off with the cash and that the photos of then may have been destroyed. No one knows what happened to them.
Now that I've explained what happened, let's go over how much they took. Estimated of £500,000. Doesn't seem much, right? Well actually today that would be worth well over £5 million. Now THAT was more than what was taken in the Great Train Robbery of 1963 where £2.6 million was stolen. But here's the funny thing. The Great Train Robbery was more well known than the Walkie-Talkie Robbery. Why? Because only a few days after the robbery, the media stopped revealing news about it. It was immediately hushed up. No one knew about it for years to come.
That was because the goverment issued a D-Notice, an official demand by the British Goverment to the media to cease the coverage of a certain piece of news due to national security. Now why would they want no one to know about a simple bank robbery? To stop the public from finding out about those photos. They can deny it all they want but issuing that D-Notice has just convinced the public of today about it. There were photos of Royalty in one large gangbang in that vault.
What's more was the robbers actually revealed certain pieces of what they stole to be beneficial evidence that revealed a lot of corrupt police in England. Hell, not only that but the kind of things they found really were embarressing to the general public. That's why hardly any spoke out what was lost as they feared what would happen if others knew. That only made the cover up so much easier.
Now you can just go onto the internet and try to look this up. I bet you'll find more articles on the film telling of the event rather than the actual event itself. Just goes to show how afraid the goverment is of us, eh?
Hey, we're only human.
